Primary School Curriculum

crest of Tir na n'Óg primary

When we speak of curriculum in our Catholic School, we are talking about the learning experiences that are present for each child, those planned by the staff and those imbibed from our school ethos and environment.

Tír na nÓg is commited to providing a broad and balanced curriculum. Children will receive their full entitlement under the Northern Ireland Curriculum as it seeks to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

Through the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science and Technology, the pupils will be equipped with the skills, knowledge and ability to pursue subject themes, topics and interests with vigour and depth. Creative and expressive areas of Art, Design, P.E. and Music will allow the pupils to speak, sing and move in order to express themselves fully Through Environment and Society studies, the children will have opportunities to acquire some knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live thus assisting them in their preparation fur adulthood. These attitudes and values will help them to contribute and become more active members of their communities whether at home. at work or at leisure. The educational themes of Information Technology, Education for Mutual Understanding Cultural Heritage and Health Education are developed through the above areas of study.

Tír na nÓg has a fine educational tradition. In addition to the academic achievements, many of our pupils regularly attain a high level of success in the areas of sport, dance, art and design.
