Pre-School Centre Routines and Activities

plaque of Tir na nOg Pre-School On arrival the children will hang up any outerwear, coats etc., on the pegs in the cloakroom. When they come into the room they will be able to choose from a wide range of toys and equipment. They may also choose to take part in the craft/painting activities so we would ask that your child does not wear any good clothes to the group. We have arranged to have special sweatshirts with our name and logo printed on them. These may be purchased from the Centre and we recommend that you do purchase a sweatshirt for your child, as it will enable us to identify children easily on outings.

During the morning the children will be offered a break. We operate a flexi-break system so that the children can choose when to eat and so that we do not disturb any play activities. It is the policy of the centre to encourage the development of healthy eating habits from an early age.

We provide the children with milk and toast daily and also give them the opportunity to have fruit and cheese on a regular basis. We would ask each child to bring a piece of fruit each week.. We would ask that you do not allow your child to bring sweets, crisps and other drinks to the group as other children do not understand why they are not getting the same. If your child has an allergy to any type of food or drink PLEASE make this known to the staff as we often have food tasting sessions as part of our curriculum. If this is the case we can arrange for the child to be given a safe food alternative.

After break the children are encouraged to have a quiet period in the form of story time. The children are also taught nursery rhymes and number songs to fit in with our monthly theme. After this the children may take part in musical activities.

Every month we have a theme, a special number and a special colour. Parents are informed of this in the monthly newsletter. We encourage the children to discuss the theme and to recognise the number and colour. They are also asked to bring something from home connected to the theme or colour into the group for the display table. You may also want to discuss our topics at home with your child.
