The Role of the Keyworker

Following detailed observations of children, adults can make well-founded assessments of what help the children need, review their existing provisions and make any necessary adjustments so that these new requirements can be met.

The Keyworker system plays a valuable part in ensuring that each child's needs are met. Children are not shadowed by their Keyworker and are able to form relationships with other adults. However, the Keyworker takes special responsibility for the children in her group creating close links with the family and ensuring that insights from home are added to knowledge gained from observations to create the fullest possible picture of the child's needs and progress.

The Keyworker is responsible for the child's observation record and talking to parents/carers on a regular basis about the child's progress. It is important to create this opportunity to share information about the child and celebrate achievements.
