Further Notes for Parents
Parental Involvement
Parents are encouraged to take an active part in the group,
whether on the committee or by coming into the group as a
parent helper. Parents who have helped in the group have
enjoyed the experience and the staff have appreciated the extra
help that they provide. We would also appreciate any parents
with special talents, (woodwork, cookery, etc.) to come in and
share their talents with the children. This can be fitted into our
programme. Any comments or suggestions are always welcome
as we strive to make the group a better place for your children.
Parents are kept informed of the child's progress throughout the
year in the form of informal interviews. When your child starts
the group they will be assigned a key worker who will observe
them daily throughout the year. They will complete a settling in
report after the child has been in the group for a month;
observation sheets are also filled in on a monthly basis. Should
you at any time wish to speak to your child's key worker please
speak to the leader who will arrange this for you.
Parents will also be kept informed of any necessary information
through this site, the monthly newsletter or by notices on the parents'
notice board in the hallway.
Fees
Fees must he paid in full during absence to keep your child's place. If you child
is going to be off long term, arrangements may be made with the management committee
about payment. If fees fall into arrears for more than two weeks and no contact
has been made with the leader, we will assume that the place is no longer required
and allocate it to another child. Details of the current fees may be obtained
from staff members.
Settling in
The children are settled into the group on a staggered basis. We
start children who have already attended the group first then
gradually start the remainder of the children to ease any settling
in problems. To help your child ease into the group, we
encourage you to stay with them for a little while on the first
day or two. Try not to feel anxious when leaving them as
children generally settle very quickly and if there are any
problems you are only a phone call away.
Policies
The Centre has a number of policies on how we will deal with
certain problems should they arise. These are available for
parents to read at any time and we would encourage you to do
so. For copy of these please speak to the leader.
Toileting
Children are required to be toilet trained before entering the group. If your
child has any special problems please speak to a member of staff To make going
to the toilet easier and to match the Tir-na-n'Óg sweatshirts we suggest
wearing black or navy jogging bottoms.
Children are encouraged to be independent while using the
toilet, but should they require help they will be assisted by a
member of staff (written permission will have been given when
the child started the group).
Safety, First Aid and Administration of Medicines
We provide a safe, secure
environment for your child to develop their abilities. However accidents do happen
which are beyond our control. It is therefore important that all parents have
signed the form giving staff permission to administer first aid. Parents will
be informed if necessary and if further medical treatment is necessary. All accidents
ate recorded in a book and parents are asked to sign when the accident has been
reported. Please inform staff of any allergies to plasters etc.
Medicine will not be administered to any child unless the parent
has given the leader written permission. All medicine or
- inhalers must be labelled clearly with the child's name and correct dosage.
Parents must inform staff of any changes to their child's well being e.g. new
allergy etc.
Do not send your child to the group if they are unwell with the
cold or an infectious illness, as they will pass this on to the other
children. Your children will not learn anything if they are
unwell. Please inform the leader if your child is unable to attend
due to illness or if they have contracted an infectious disease.
Fire drills are carried out monthly, all children will be instructed
on how to react should the fire bell ring while they are inside the
building.
Special Requests
Ensure that all your child's belongings are clearly marked with a name. Do
not permit your child to bring in sweets or chewing gum. They could provide a
choking hazard as well as being unfair to other children.
If your child will not be attending the Centre please inform the
leader as soon as possible.
Should you wish your child to be collected by someone else
please inform a member of staff when the child arrives.
Please discourage your child from bringing toys into the group,
they may get broken or mixed up with others. Comfort toys
may be brought until your child settles into the group.
If your child has any special likes or dislikes please let us know.
We want them to enjoy their experiences at Centre.
Complaints
If you have any complaints please do not hesitate to speak to the
leader. All conversations will he dealt with confidentially.
Should you wish to speak to someone else a meeting can be
arranged with the N.I.P.P.A. Advisor, the Social Worker or a
member of the Management Committee.
A box is available for material for junk art'. Boxes, cartons, kitchen roll tubes
and milk bottle tops can all be recycled to become wonderful creations! Before
you throw anything away please ask if we could use it. This includes household
items e.g. toasters, bathroom scales, typewriters or computer keyboards.
Outings and Events
Throughout the year we take the children on short outings --
library, park, local schools etc. Please make sure that you have
signed the form giving your child permission to take part in
these activities. Every year we organise outings to the cinema
and other places of interest.

dentist, dental hygienist, nurse and fire brigade. There are also
visits from the N.I.P.P.A. representative and social worker.

from the group. Time will have been spent on creating their
"masterpiece . Please remember their work is important and
should he praised and displayed at home.

buying equipment.
Monkeynastix
Monkeynastix is a Movement Education Programme carried out
by a qualified and trained Monkeynastix instructor. The
movement programme is focused on fun, presenting the child
with different movement experiences and exposing the child to
the possibilities that exist in physical activity. Monkeynastix
Movement Education lesson plans are structured for a thirty-
minute class once a week. Fees of £20.00 per term are payable
in advance and in full at the bcginning of each term.
